What is single cell protein?
Single cell protein (SCP) is protein produced by microorganisms through fermentation. Instead of raising an animal or growing a crop for months, we cultivate carefully selected healthy microbes that naturally build high-quality protein. It's the same family of processes humans have used for thousands of years to make bread, beer, yoghurt and cheese, now applied to create a clean, complete protein source. That's the second meaning behind our name: 1SCP/D, single cell protein, one scoop a day.
A genuinely complete protein
Protein quality comes down to amino acids. Nine of them are “essential”: your body can't make them, so they have to come from food. Most plant proteins fall short on at least one. Our microbial protein doesn't. It contains all nine essential amino acids and the full BCAA profile, at a protein content of 80%, matching whey concentrate in both quality and quantity. You get the amino acid profile of an animal protein with the sustainability of a plant one.

Grown, not farmed
Conventional protein is expensive for the planet: animal protein needs livestock, land, water and feed; many plant proteins need large areas of arable land. Fermentation needs almost none of that. We grow protein using healthy microbes in a controlled process, with no livestock and no arable land, making it one of the most resource-efficient ways on earth to produce a complete protein. Nature's oldest brewing processes, brought back to life with modern biotechnology.

1SCP/D is the result of five years of doctoral research and laboratory work in microbial protein, developed together with the team at NOLALABS. Our approach is supported by preclinical studies and more than 1,000 published studies on microbial protein and prebiotic fibre. This is food science done properly, not a passing trend.
