Whey is the reference for protein powder. It is what most people already take, and it sets the bar for protein quality. So that is what we measure 1SCP/D against.
How we compare
Every row in the table below is a threshold you can check: a minimum amount per serving, a share of the protein, or a recognised reference such as the FAO/WHO amino acid pattern. A row either meets it or it does not. Where a row rests on our own data, the source under the table says so.
What the marks mean
A dotted check means the protein meets the threshold. The brand-coloured check means it clearly exceeds it. A hairline means it does not meet it.
What this table does not say
It does not say whey is a bad protein. On protein quality, whey remains excellent. The difference lies in what comes with the protein: chicory inulin, fibre, and a source that is grown by fermentation rather than farmed. Chicory inulin contributes to normal bowel function by increasing stool frequency.
